how you feel about that?

Rodolfo
you know while the idea of Villaraigosa as the mayor of the second largest city in the country seems like a victory for the latinos in the US. I always look back on those latino polititcians, and remember that it really those not matter what race they are, what matters is that they are politicians. Politicos will always sell out to the special interests and forget who they are really supposed to be working for. Therefore, I don't think the race matters. That aside, he seems to be a cool latino, modern if you will...combining his wife's last name with his is very non -machista, maybe more mechista. Peace.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that my comment had elicited a response from you. I appreciate your thoughtful response especially the second part. It raises issues that we have to consider as we in Chicago look to the next mayoral elections. Up until Wednesday most pundits considered the next race to be between white (Mayor Rich Daley) vs. Black (Jesse Jackson Jr. This changed when Congressman Luis Gutierrez declared that he too may be interested in running. It esentially put folks on notice that hey, Latinos are the largest minority in Chicago and only a fool would assume that we won't decide who Chicago's next mayor will be. We may choose one of our own or we may endorse someone else, but NEVER assume that you will make that choice for us.

I was curious to hear what you thought about all this too. I'm glad you posted this. I agree with you about what race has to do with someone's ability to perform a job.

Hector, no problem. There's a lot I don't write about because I get a little busy and kinda lazy. However, I figured some people might be interested as you showed.

Rodolfo, yeah, there were things that disappointed me about his previous positions. Still, I think there's a whole lot more I like than dislike about him.

Geo, being Mexican, Chicana/o or Latina/o is a big issue in LA these days. I'll write more on this.

Vette, I don't think I did any singing. I got to be security. Fun times.

Hopefully he will become a counter balance for the Governator. And well, we all know every single mistake he makes will be blamed on him being Mexican/Hispanic/Latino.
