how you feel about that?

Weird worship stories: 1) The first time I went to a synagogue (my family converted when I was young) was in Buenos Aires, 1978. We sat in the back row. At the beginning of every Sabbath service (I would later find out), everyone turns towards the front door and sings a Hebrew song Come, my beloved. Everyone then turns around and sits down. BUT, since it was our first time, we didnt know to sit down. We stood facing the door until the rabbi called out, in front of hundreds of people, Hey you in the back row! You can sit down now. 2) I was a groomsman in a Catholic wedding recently where the priest spent 15 minutes talking of the sins of pornography and masturbation (embarrassing when youre standing in front of the whole church!) and 3) True story: about a decade ago, we had a rabbi who had to leave town after allegations of domestic violence arose. WEIRD!

Nebur, those are rather funny, if embarrasing. A few years ago, I went home and was hanging out at a restaurant with my parents and some of their friends from church. They were all alluding to some announcement in Mass. I made them tell me. The news? Oh, no big deal, except that the mongisnor/pastor of our parish had gotten MARRIED and given up the priesthood! Oh yeah, and he had been a priest for about 35 years. What is this the Thornbirds? Who tries to date a Catholic priest? Weird.

"You know, it's really sad that people still think like that. You would think that these days theyd be more open minded." - that's how I've been feeling a lot lately.

I spent the early part of my life basically in church since my Mom worked there, and I was an altar boy for a long time. I even got invited to serve as the bishop's altar boy for a while. When you spend so much time in a church you get to know a lot of things that go on. I remember that the latino priests loved to chismear about people. The latest priest at the church apparently is going to get fired or whatever it is called for misappropiation of funds, and for living a lifestyle of a single man (partying, drinking, etc, etc). While I still have my faith, I stopped going to mass a long time ago, I find the whole event hypocritical.

Another weird story, on the Thornbirds tip: A guy I work with was a priest until about 20 years ago. He married, had children, and is now a member of the same church where he was a priest and everyone is cool with everything.

I have no weird church stories. Only that I used to look forward to going every sunday because this HOT gal helped collect the entrance fee during mass.
