how you feel about that?

What a small world it is! My dad is really good friends with Johnny Polanco. Anyhow, being of Puerto Rican descent (no matter the generation) it was obligatory that I learn how to dance salsa. It started with my dad teaching me at weddings and other family get togethers. When we would go to New York there was a lot of pressure to look like I knew what I was doing. Growing up in L.A. though, no one cared, because most folks at that time were from Mexico and Central America. But, then the salsa craze came to town in the early 90's and it has been such a force in L.A. ever since. I must say that I know many dancers of all nationalities that REALLY can dance well. My future brother in-law is a good example. He didn't start out so good, but he is hot stuff now. What is dissapointing though is there is too much competition within the Salsa "scene". There is so much pressure to have the right clothes, shoes, hair, dance partner ... some people take it way too seriously. I don't know why I don't just ignore them, but E. and I stopped bothering altogether a while ago. Actually, what I really came here to tell you was that Julieta is coming to L.A. Here is the scoop: Julieta Venegas, Jennifer Nash, Moxi The Knitting Factory 7021 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, CA (323) 463-0204 Todos las edades
