So, the week has been good despite the oppressive heat. I dont think I would mind such warm weather if I was more comfortable wearing summer-y clothes. I like cooler weather because I like layering on coats and sweaters and wearing jeans all the time. Anyway thoughts on the past week:
- Im not supposed to talk about the Friday night deliberations to allocate funding for 57 community service programs. So, I wont, but Ill say that staying in Kerckhoff until 2 something in the morning made me feel like I was an undergrad again. Still, the hours I put into the committee work this week barely compare to the hours the students put into their programs.
- I have mixed feelings about the fact that there are so many programs specifically targeting the Chicana/o and Latina/o community in and around LA. I know things are bad, but I hate to hear a lot of non-Latinos talking about how theyre going out into the community to "help us." Yeah, I know they have good intentions, but I wonder about their understanding of community issues when they often come from such different backgrounds.
- At 24 years of age, Im going to start working on my autobiography. Yup, yup. Isa spent a week in Connecticut and New York recently. She drove out to help her sister move in to her dorm at Wesleyan. She came back with a autobiography writing kit she picked up at Mark Twains house.
- In case youre wondering, Isa is a great new roommate. Yeah, I miss Ome, but Isa cleans up after herself!
- Isa is also currently one of my favorite people because she also gave me a copy of Jems Finally Woken. Ive been playing it non-stop. Its beautiful.
- I went to the Dodger game Saturday night with Adrian, Lori and her beau, Esteban. Oh yeah, I also took the Ozo. Reasons the game was great:
1. The Dodgers beat the Cardinals 6-5 in a pretty exciting game.
2. It was free. Loris boss gave her the tickets, plus a preferred parking pass.
3. Lori also treated us to wonderful stadium food. Nachos, peanuts, and Dodger dogs. Yum!
4. Ice cream sandwich. - I feel bad saying this, but Cesar Izturis is now my favorite shortstop. Alex Rodriguez is still my favorite player, but hes currently at third and he plays with the Yankees. Meh.
- My night didnt end after the Dodger game. I met up with the Chris, Lamont, Dom, Ralph, and a few other folks at the Little Temple. Oh yeah, that was free too since we were on the guest list. Good friends, good drinks, good music.
- I played dominoes with guys and lost while we were at Cherisses baby shower. Well, it was more like a "baby party" as Chris put it because we didnt play the corny games.
Ill be going through the few hundred pictures of Mxico I have soon and posting some. Stay tuned.
