qu viva la juventud!

So, I woke up much, much earlier than I usually do on Saturday to come to campus and help out at the 11th annual Raza Youth Conference. It's really the only time at UCLA when I see so many brown faces all in one place. I think this year there were at least 1500 people. Most of them were high school students, but there were also middle school and community college students, parents and children. Most years the number attending is about 1000-1200, so this year was an improvement on attendance.

It's nice to see the conference 6 years after I first came here and volunteered to help organize the College Fair part of it during lunch time. The students who are now the ones running the conference are young (lots of 2nd and 3rd years) and it's amazing to see how far they've come in their leadership development. It's times like this when I feel that on some level we (MEChA) are doing a good job and really making a difference.
