I know it's crazy. If only my neice saw what REALLY happened to Strawberry Shortcake she'd flip. My dad wore the head around to make the older kids laugh (after it was beaten/broken of course). Then the bottom half, the legs of Strawberry Shortcake were filled with Erika's little legs that looked like she was on stilts. (my dad was holding her upright)

The principle in the movie Napoleon Dynamite would agree with you.

Yes, we ARE weird. But you can escape it. Wait until you're a mom and you find yourself stringing up Dora the Explorer so your daughter can smack the crap out of her. The reason I didn't want to have a party for Isa at Chuck E Cheese or something like that... where would we do the piñata?!!

i really hate elmo, and animal and all that other stuff, piatas. At least that elmo piata was star shaped, I love the original stars they are the best IMHO.

Yeah, I always thought piatas were more apt for adults when we really wanna smack the hell out of cute little cartoon characters. How's that song go? Dale, dale, dale ...

Oso, it goes "dale, dale, dale / no pierdas el ritmo..." (I don't know the rest).

C.: I'm a bit late leaving you a comment on this one, but here it is: beating up an effigy of a loved character in order to obtain a reward from inside ot can be analyzed various ways as can be anything: from left to right. You pick your spot on the spectrum and ask yourself why you picked that spot. As for how we analyze ourselves, remember that Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, etc. are predominantly of a Christian tradition that holds a man who allowed himself to be beat up as our savior. So, from that standpoint, a piata becomes almost Jesus-like, allowing itself to be beat up to bring good to others. :-)

Frances, that made me and my roommate laugh out loud. Yet, I don't know if we can equate candy with eternal salvation. Eh, most kids don't really care anyway.
