The strangest thing happened on the way to Chula Vista. For a couple of minutes, Danny, Adrian, Lori and I all quit complaining. We stopped text messaging and calling folks on our cell phones. All arguing and shit-talking ceased.
Were we silent? No.
We sang. And, no, it wasn't a goofy Christmas carol. Instead, we sang at the top of our lungs to Forgiveness by Goldfinger, a song that all of us know but hadn't heard in months... maybe a year or two.
It was so odd, but fitting considering a conversation we had almost as soon as we got on the road. For a couple of minutes, we agreed on a song we all liked and we sang with genuine gusto. We were all in a good mood and enjoying each other's company. I suppose that's the best thing about the holidays.
I couldn't help but think that we looked very California sitcom-ish. I swear, we weren't trying to be a clich as we - four good looking kids - sped south on the 5, wearing sunglasses to block the sun as we stared out to view the sun glaring off the Pacific Ocean to our left.
